This Marktech VOSB certification, awarded by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, via its Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE), follows the company’s successful completion of a nearly year-long stringent application process. Over the next three years, this certification affords Marktech new eligibility under the Veterans First Contracting Program for VA federal contracting opportunities and related set asides, and with subsequent potential for certification renewal.

Marktech is the only known U.S. optoelectronics manufacturer to currently have such a distinction.

Notes Marktech CEO, Mark Campito, “Speaking equally, as both a proud U.S. Navy veteran, who originally enlisted under the G.I. bill, and a proud 40-year veteran of the optoelectronics manufacturing industry, this certification brings with it a special sense of honor, as it combines both of those rewarding histories in a truly innovative way. Marktech looks forward to the prospect of new opportunities to grow our business with the federal government now afforded to us with this certification. At the same time, we remain grateful to the many OEMs who champion diversity initiatives within their supply chains, including for U.S. veteran-owned small businesses like ours.”

The VA’s Veterans First Verification Program affords verified firms which are owned and controlled by veterans and service-disabled veterans the opportunity to compete for VA set asides. During verification, the CVE verifies SDVOSBs/VOSBs according to the tenets found in Title 38 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 74 and 13 CFR Part 125 that address veteran eligibility, ownership, and control. In order to qualify for participation in the veterans First Contracting Program, eligible SDVOSBs/VOSBs must first be verified. Marktech Announces Successful InP Epitaxial Crystal Technology Development for Ultra-High-Speed (5G) Large-Capacity Signal Processing Applications

InP epitaxial crystal

April 24, 2019 – Latham, NY, USA  Marktech Optoelectronics, Inc. (www.marktechopto.com)(Marktech), a privately-held, veteran-owned leading designer and manufacturer of standard and custom optoelectronics components and assemblies, including UV, visible, near-infrared, and short-wave infrared emitters, detectors, InP epiwafers and other materials, today announced its successful in-house development of InP epitaxial crystal mass production technologies for ultra-high-speed (5G) large-capacity signal processing applications.

The Marktech R&D efforts were carried out under the direction of Dr. Gako Araki, a 25-year expert in ultra-high-speed InP HBT and HEMT epitaxial crystal growth technologies. A member of the Marktech team since 2010, Dr. Araki’s experience further includes a progressive series of related R&D tenures at the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and NTT Advance Technology Corporation, both in Tokyo, Japan.

Research was carried out in two distinct phases. Phase One consisted of ultra-high-speed (5G) lnP epitaxial crystal growth technology development using small prototype MOCVD equipment (4inch.x4). Phase Two consisted of actual ultra-high-speed (5G) lnP epitaxial crystal manufacturing using large mass-production MOCVD equipment, known as GAKOUS (4inch.x10).  Given that true lnP-HBT epitaxial crystal performance testing requires electrical characteristic evaluations on larger HBT devices, Marktech instead focused R&D efforts on the development of new manufacturing equipment which could produce InP-HBT epitaxial crystals with the necessary uniform quality, size and quality for large-capacity ultra-high-speed (5G) signal processing applications. These goals were successfully achieved via a new crystal manufacturing method: carbon-doped InGaAs growth without hydrogen.

The Marktech evaluation of the small MOCVD prototype derived from this equipment showed favorable performance characteristics. Marktech then performed successful high-frequency HBT electrical characterizations on the prototype with equally favorable results. As a result, Marktech was able to conclude its successful development of new lnP HBT epitaxial crystal growth production equipment, known as MOCVD GAKOUS, whose capabilities offer the necessary prototype growth technology reproducibility and uniformity for manufacturing quality control in ultra-high-speed (5G) lnP epitaxial crystal growth applications.

As a final accompaniment to this R&D, Marktech developed a series of non-destructive electron mobility measurement systems. This included time-resolve photoluminescence testing with infrared wavelength area measurements, a technique which proved useful in the performance of lnGaAs channel layer quality checks, as well as HBT gain estimates by p-lnGaAs base layers during crystal growth and production. Using these techniques, it was determined that the Marktech small MOCVD prototype 4inchx4 exhibited satisfactory performance with new organic materials, independent source injection and a narrow gap placed between the injector and surface to avoid complex surface reactions. As a result, Marktech developed its new MOCVD GAKOUS equipment to produce lnP epitaxial crystal material which could offer the same performance and reliability as that of the prototype, yet with sufficient quality and uniformity for larger-scale commercial lnP HBT and HEMT crystal production volumes.

Of this research, Marktech CEO, Mark Campito, notes, “Marktech is proud of the R&D work of Dr. Araki in the area of InP epitaxial crystal mass production technologies for ultra-high-speed (5G) large-capacity signal processing. Our team’s commitment to proactive R&D efforts that address diverse or emerging market sector needs has been well-demonstrated over the years, whether that’s a 5G application, LiDAR, wearables, or others. We look forward to working in partnership with key 5G industry players to help them achieve their device performance goals.”

What types of Silicon photodetectors does Marktech manufacture in-house?

(Each week, we’ll be featuring a spotlight Question and Answer, of those most commonly asked by Marktech customers. We hope that you find this content helpful for your decision-making. Have a question you’d like answered? We’d love to hear from you! Contact us at [email protected] )

The Answer:

Marktech offers multiple Silicon photodetector types, both standard and custom, supporting a variety of requirements. Each Silicon photodetector type manufactured by Marktech offers its own advantages, of course, depending upon the specifics of the intended installation environment. Firstly, Marktech designs and manufactures standard and Silicon photodiodes and Silicon phototransistors, with spectral sensitivities from 350 nm to 1100 nm, for visible and near infrared applications requiring low noise, high speed and high sensitivity. The company is also offering a new line of UV-enhanced photodetectors, with improved spectral sensitivities in the 150 nm to 570 nm range.

Marktech Optoelectronics Photodetectors West Coast Facility
         Marktech Silicon Photodetectors

In addition, all of the Silicon wafers and chips manufactured by Marktech are optimized to ensure uniform, consistent performance and high reliability for their intended application. Marktech further offers them with several cost-effective customization capabilities. Just a few examples include operational voltage selection, wavelength specific band-pass filtering, and hybridization.

Marktech also designs and manufactures GaP Schottky photodetectors, specially optimized for high-accuracy UV photodetection up to the visible spectrum, or 150 nm to 550 nm. They also manufacture InGaAs PIN photodiode chips, in active area sizes from 0.1 to 3.0 mm, with spectral sensitivities from 600 nm to 2600 nm. And finally, Marktech offers foundry services for the epitaxial growth of high-reliability SWIR epiwafers, of 1.0 μm to 2.6 μm cut-off wavelength, with InP material as the base substrate. They are offered in 2″, 3″ and 4″ diameters. A little known fact, Marktech remains one of only a few companies in the world offering SWIR.

So, should your Silicon photodetector requirements call for something that’s perhaps more “out of the box” than “off the shelf”, the experienced team at Marktech can help.  Contact Marktech today for an applications assessment.

New Silicon Avalanche Photodiodes for Low-Level Light and Short Pulse Detection

Silicon Avalanche Photodiodes from Marktech ElectronicsJuly 24, 2018 – Latham, NY, USA – Marktech Optoelectronics (www.marktechopto.com)(Marktech), a privately-held, VOSB-certified leading designer and manufacturer of standard and custom optoelectronics components and assemblies, including UV, visible, near-infrared (NIR), and short wavelength infrared (SWIR) emitters, detectors, InP epiwafers and other materials, today announced the availability of its standard and custom Silicon avalanche photodiodes (Si APD’s), in quantities from prototype to OEM volumes.

Marktech Si APD’s offer low-level light and short pulse detections of wavelengths between 400 nm and 1100 nm. They are offered with choice of either a 230 µm or 500 µm active diameter; optical sensitivity optimizations for 800 nm or 905 nm peak response; an internal gain mechanism; high gain at low bias voltage; extremely fast rise times, as low as 300 ps; frequency response to 1 GHz; and a low breakdown voltage of 80V to 200V. Units are also RoHS compliant.

Standard Si APD’s are offered with multiple customization options, including operational voltage selection and Vbr binning, wavelength specific band-pass filtering, and hybridization. Package options include hermetically sealed TO metal cans, plastic, and cost-effective SMD (LCC) types, with additional customization by request. Standard Si APD’s in small-to-medium volumes are typically available with 24-hour shipment from stock via Marktech’s longtime distribution partner, Digi-Key Electronics. In addition, custom Si APD’s from Marktech are typically available in as few as 6 to 8 weeks from custom prototype approvals. Please consult Marktech’s Latham, New York-based R&D center for applications engineering assistance.

As precision measurement devices, Marktech Si APD’s offer low dark current and significantly higher sensitivities, including higher NIR spectral sensitivity, than can be achieved with a standard photodiode. This allows the Silicon avalanche photodiodes to serve as the semiconductor near-equivalent to photomultipliers within a myriad of applications. It also allows the Silicon avalanche photodiodes to accurately detect weaker light intensities, in applications where higher bandwidth or internal gain may be required, in order to overcome higher preamplifier noise levels. Typical applications for Marktech Si APD’s include laser counting, x-ray spectroscopy, optical data communications, LIDAR, optical rangefinders, spatial light transmitters, scintillation detectors, fast receiver modules, particle detectors, industrial surveying equipment, automated toll collectors, astronomy observation devices, and vehicle self-braking and self-parking systems.
