Moisture Sensing

See moisture. Design with confidence.

Explore 2.6 µm-class photodiodes for near-infrared moisture measurement. Start with your wavelength, optical design and measurement requirements.

Application concept for system designers. Detector suitability must be confirmed for your operating conditions.

Reach beyond standard InGaAs.

Near-infrared moisture sensing compares light at a water-absorption wavelength with a reference measurement. An extended InGaAs detector can support designs using the 1.9 µm region, beyond the conventional 1.7 µm cutoff class.

Choose the detector for the actual signal level, bandwidth and temperature. Spectral coverage alone does not establish measurement accuracy.

Wavelength selectionSchematic wavelength comparison: conventional 1.7 micrometer cutoff stops before the 1.9 micrometer water band; extended 2.6 micrometer cutoff includes this region. Schematic only, not a measured responsivity curve. Bars illustrate wavelength classes, not guaranteed usable ranges. Sensitivity varies with wavelength, device and temperature.

The right detector
starts with the details.

  • Signal and wavelengthConfirm responsivity at the measurement and reference wavelengths, through the chosen optical window.
  • Noise and temperatureEvaluate dark current and system noise at the required operating temperature and bias.
  • Optics and electronicsMatch active area, capacitance, bandwidth and TIA design to the collected light.
