Application Notes

Application Notes: Derating LEDs
When derating LEDs, please note that Toshiba technical data for LED lamps usually shows the permissible current values against temperature. Please refer to this information when planning a new design.

Notes on LED Lamp Selection:
When it comes to LED lamp selection, it is important to consider that LED lamps emit different colors (wavelengths) depending on their materials of construction. LED lamps based on public standards, for example, those used for specialized traffic signals or automotive stop lamps, frequently use a standardized bulb as their light source.

Application Notes: LED Lamp Soldering
When it comes to lead-type LED lamp soldering, it’s important to keep in mind that, since the transparent resin has a low softening temperature (glass transition temperature),  temperature must be carefully controlled when soldering. The following precautions should be observed when LED lamp soldering.

Application Notes: Reliability of LEDs
When it comes to understanding the reliability of LEDs, as mentioned earlier, it is important to note that the luminous intensity of LED lamps characteristically declines slowly with use. Marktech recommends the end-user to select LED lamps according to the level of reliability that will be required in the equipment in which they will be used.

Photosensor Application Notes:
The basic circuit of an optical sensor is shown in Figure 2-2.1(a). The anode of the LED is connected to the power line VCC via resistor RE and the cathode is grounded.

Application Notes: Precautions for Lead-Type Radial Taping
It is important to undertake certain precautions for lead-type radial taping, given that LED lamps are sold as either loose or tape products. For mounting by hand, loose products are generally used, whereas tape products are required for automatic mounting.

Application Notes: Precautions for Using LED Lamps
In terms of precautions for using LED lamps, it is important to note that the characteristics of a LED lamp change according to the chip temperature (Tj: the temperature of the junction emitting the light).

Application Notes: Static Lighting and Dynamic Lighting
It is important to understand the nuances between standard lighting and dynamic lighting, given that an LED can be lit using one of two methods: either, the static lighting method, in which a constant current is inputted continuously over time; or the dynamic lighting method, in which current is fed in continuous ON-OFF pulses.

Visible LEDs Application Notes:
For customer convenience, Marktech has published a number of visible LED application notes, found here. The features of LED lamps become clear, by comparison with tungsten filament, incandescent lamps and discharge tubes, in terms of their light emitting mechanisms and structures.
