Marktech Introduces High-Reliability Packaging Featuring Cree Chips

Marktech can package Cree LED die into custom components and assemblies

Latham, New YorkMarktech Optoelectronics, a leading supplier of visible, infrared, and SWIR LED products, introduces its latest series of high-reliability metal can packages, which incorporate Cree’s robust LED die. Cree combines highly efficient InGaN materials with proprietary substrates to deliver superior performance for high-intensity LEDs. Marktech’s metal can packages, offered in different heights and lensing options, are available for single or multichip die configurations, depending on the application needs.

This series of hermetically sealed TO-5, TO-18, TO-39, and TO-46 packages are offered in flat or dome lensed options. The high lumen output of the Cree die, combined with Marktech’s precise die centering capabilities, make these LEDs ideal for illumination in machine vision, scanning, and medical inspection equipment.

“The die that Cree manufactures–available in a number of chip sizes, wavelengths, and power outputs–are extremely stable at low or high currents, allowing manufacturers a range of choices for applications requiring high-reliability and hermeticity,” says Steve Hubert, Marktech’s manager for Cree products.

Precise die centering within packaging is a key component to critical illumination, machine vision, and scanning applications. As illuminated surfaces continue to decrease in size, accurate detection of the scanned area relies on the correct light position.

Marktech’s series of high-reliability metal can packages, offered in blue, green, white, and amber colors, boasts high lumen output and efficiency and can be customized into single or multi-wave LEDs, light arrays, or miniature light rings.

LATHAM, NEW YORK… The market for short wavelength infrared (SWIR) devices is growing rapidly as the variety of applications grows. For example, SWIR can be used in biofluorescence and blood chemistry analysis in a medical setting. It is also used for night vision technology, security equipment, anti-counterfeiting currency validation, fiber optics, produce inspection systems, and more.

Solutions for your SWIR Application

Marktech Optoelectronics, a Latham, New York-based is one of only a handful of manufacturers that supply emitters in the extended wavelength or SWIR range. Marktech’s Extended Wavelength Emitters standard product offering includes both through-hole and surface mount packages with wavelengths from 1050 nm to 1720 nm and operating currents ranging from 20mA to 350mA for high-power applications. Higher wavelength ranges up to 3000 nm are available in specific package types.

Custom Extended Wavelength Emitters – Options

In addition, Marktech offers cost-effective custom design, packaging, and hybridization of all of their LEDs.

Specialized Detectors for SWIR

The SWIR wavelength range requires specialized optical detectors as standard silicon detectors have a maximum sensitivity limit of approximately 1100nm. Marktech produces a line of InGaAs detectors that are optimized for sensing light in the SWIR wavelength range. These detectors can be obtained as an individual, discrete component, or they can be combined with a silicon sensor to cover the complete spectrum of light from the visible to the SWIR range. Marktech also offers the option to custom-produce multi-element devices with emitter and detector chips in the same package.

The Marktech lineup of detectors includes a large assortment of products ranging from 280nm to 2.6um including specialty photodetectors (GaP Schottky), silicon photo transistors, InGaAs PIN photodiodes, silicon Avalanche photodiodes, and standard silicon photodiodes.
